Certified organic? Check. Volcanic soils? Oh yeah. Low yields? Absolutely. Mountain-grown magic? You bet. After nearly 40 years on Pritchard Hill, David Arthur Vineyards is back with a stunning, modern Bordeaux blend – the DAV Proprietary Red - that firmly puts Vaca Mountain fruit front and center. The power duo - father and daughter David and Laura Long - team up in the vineyards and cellar to craft some of Napa’s most thrilling wines, this bottle doubles as an ambitious ambassador.

Perched atop Pritchard Hill in the Eastern Vaca Mountains, David Arthur Vineyards has been organically farmed for over 40 years! The high-elevation site, born of ancient volcanic activity, thrives on reddish rocky, mineral-rich soils that deliver exceptional drainage and character to the vines.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot all make their way into this sassy Bordeaux-inspired beauty. It pours a rich ruby-red and bursts with aromas of juicy blackberry, blueberry, and plum jam, wrapped in a swirl of vanilla, toasted oak, and warm baking spices. Smooth and generous on the palate, it shows off silky tannins and plenty of personality. The finish goes on and on with flavors of cherry cola, dark chocolate and black raspberry. Lush, layered, and a little indulgent, this wine is pure pleasure. Aged 20 months in French oak, it delivers plush structure, soft tannins, and complex flavors ready to rumble now or cellar a few years for greater evolution.

Our crush on this Bordeaux blend is real, but we’re not alone. Wine Spectator gave it a shoutout, ā€œJuicy and direct, with a tasty mix of loganberry and black currant fruit lined with singed anise, sweet tobacco and a light tug of loam on the finish. Sneaky length. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.ā€ Can we get an amen?

The 2019 Proprietary Red Wine is soft, supple and engaging, which makes it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the medium-term. A healthy dollop of Merlot lends juiciness and immediacy. Sweet floral and spice notes add brightness to this easygoing red blend.Ā
