Bill Foley is wine royalty.
He’s built an empire around using great fruit to make superb wines, and has put the right people in the right places to keep his engines humming.
For years, Bill and his wine, Carol Johnson Foley, had dreamt of opening a winery that bore their name somewhere in the Napa Valley. Well in 2012 that dream came true, and they launched Foley Johnson, a beautiful estate situated in the heart of Rutherford.
Located on the iconic Highway 29, their neighbors include the likes of Robert Mondavi, Nickel & Nickel, Cakebread, Turnbull, and Opus One, and their breathtaking property is a true sight for sore eyes. With views that go in every direction, it’s no wonder why Bill and Carol took the chance to put their name on this illustrious property when they had the chance. They have nearly 50 acres of vineyards located around the winery that go into their Napa Valley bottlings, and make no mistake that what lies inside the bottle is stuff worth paying attention to.
Their 2019 Rutherford Cabernet is a classic expression of Napa Valley Cab, rooted in the transparent identity of this famed appellation. Intoxicating aromas of black cherry, tobacco, black raspberries, cassis, and spiced cedar lead into an opulent palate full of black fruits, savory undertones, and lingering notes of vanilla. The finish is bright and elegant, wrapped in those famous Rutherford Dust tannins all caressed by a thin veil of exuberant acidity.
It’s a truly fabulous wine made by a husband and wife duo that know a thing or two about developing world-renowned brands.
What’s even better as we grabbed this wine for a song and are setting it to move out the door! Classic Rutherford Cabernet at a price that’ll have you licking your chops and ready to pounce. Bill Foley has done a pretty good job of climbing the vinous mountain, and you know this wine has to be outrageously good for him to put his name on it.
