We may live in Napa, but our eyes keep gazing to our northern neighbor for Bordeaux varieties with power, structure and a price that simply can’t be beat.

We’ve spoken about our affinity for Washington state wines over the past few weeks, and this microproduction (120 cases) from the Columbia Valley is a powerhouse of epic liquid proportions.

The 2015 Darighe Prop Red Blend (pronounced Dah-Reeg) is a Columbia Valley monster that hails from the famed and coveted vinous heaven that is the Wahluke Slope. The 2015 Darighe takes the five Bordeaux varieties and blends them into a luscious and dynamic wine that over delivers in every way imaginable. Cabernet is pulling the wagon here, but the combination of Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and a splash of Malbec really bring this beauty together in glorious liquid harmony.

Densely packed with layers of blackberry pie, creme de cassis, black cherry and spice effortlessly glide into a rich and decadent palate full of pure fruit, graphite, pipe tobacco and cedar. A lingering finish coats the mouth and holds on to your thoughts long into the imbibing experience.

With only 120 cases produced, this is serious big time juice that is as rare as it gets. Throw in the 2015 vintage (which absolutely crushed the universe in Washington), and you have a sub $40 Prop Red that will give any of your Napa faves some serious competition.

A serious cellar treasure that’s as rare as can be, fire the harpoon and secure this Washington whale before it descends into the abyss forever.
