Syrah.

Just the thought of it gives us goosebumps.

And when we think of superlative Napa Syrah, we look to the top of the mountain (literally) and seek out Lagier Meredith.

Carole Meredith & Steve Lagier are two absolute legends of the wine business, and make what is arguably one of the great renditions of this illustrious grape. Hailing from the top of Mount Veeder, this is deep, dark, and decadent Syrah that defies logic and is downright dangerous.

Lagier Meredith has always been an underground find, and though it’s an in-the-know wine among the vinous cognoscenti, it seems many people still have no idea the liquid greatness that comes from their esteemed home property.

Aged in neutral wood for 23 months, and only 440 cases produced, this is microlot juice that over delivers on both the palate and your wallet. Blueberry compote, dusty red berries, hints of ginger, dried lavender, cured meats, and waves of white and black pepper jump out of the glass, as a hedonistic opulence riddled with mountain tension and structure overwhelm the senses in the best of ways.

It has a Northern Rhone vibe, but is quintessential California when it comes down to it. Gothic in the glass, this is as perfect as perfect gets when it comes to mountain Syrah done right.

Solid numbers from the critics, two legends of the business and a price that’s too good to pass up.

Power meets finesse, with a core of dense complexity wrapped in dynamic blackberry, smoky meat, crushed stone and pepper flavors that build toward big but refined tannins.

The very deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Syrah Mt. Veeder has a lifted nose of red and black cherries, black raspberries and rose hip tea with hints of wild blueberries, bouquet garni and olives. The palate is medium-bodied, very refreshing, spicy and elegant with nice rounded tannins and a long finish.
