Who knows the 75% percent rule in wine?
Let’s take a moment to refresh our memories, shall we?
If a wine has more than 75% of one grape in it, it is considered that grape.
For example, if a wine is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, it is considered a Cabernet Sauvignon.
If a wine is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, it tends to be called a Red Blend or Prop Red.
But what if a wine is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Merlot and Syrah?
If you said Cabernet Sauvignon, you are correct!!!
So why would Bennett Lane call their 2015 Maximus Red Feasting Wine a Red Blend and not a Cabernet Sauvignon?Great question! Probably because they don’t want it to compete with their other Napa Cabs that are twice the price!
Ah… the wonders of marketing!!!!!!
Yes, that Bennett lane of Calistoga that makes exceptional Napa Cabs sourced from distinguished sites all over the valley. And we’ve got a special treat from their cellar from the sensational 2015 vintage!
A Cabernet Sauvignon by percentage but at Red Blend prices! And we’ve shaved a little more off the top just to make a point.
