Paso Robles is on the rise.

And they’re turning up the dial when it comes to top quality juice that overdelivers where and when it counts.

Iron + Sand is a name you need to know. They’re a nod to the natural draw of the historic hot springs that are part of the area's landscape, as the Iron Spring and Sand Spring launched Paso Robles into a bustling destination and California’s oldest watering hole at the turn of the century.

Well we love a good watering hole… especially when it’s filled with decadent Cabernet at a price too good to be true.

The soils in these parts happen to contain the same two distinct elements this winery is named after, and the alluvial, well drained sandy soils are the perfect home for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.

Sourced from two sustainably farmed vineyards within the Paso Robles AVA, the terroir shines through with minimal intervention in the cellar, all rooted in a transparent style that highlights freshness and focused layers of fruit.

Dense and gothic purple in the glass, aromas of dark red berries, wild blueberries, black cherries, cassis, cola, spiced mocha, coffee, and hints of vanilla all come through like a shining Cabernet light in the desert darkness. The energetic layers of fruit are complemented by fresh acidity and fine-grained tannins that showcase this wine has serious staying power if you have the patience to keep it around.

But at this price, we’d say just back up the truck and drink to your heart’s content. A long and supple finish only adds to the party, and with a few 92 point scores to boot, it’s no surprise this up-and-coming producer is making some serious waves.

There’s nothing quite like finding the diamond in the rough.

And we’ve discovered a garnet jewel that’s yours for the taking.

Wine Enthusiast

A dense blackberry aroma is lifted by loam, cocoa and mint on the nose of this bottling. There are firm tannins framing the sip, which is cohesive and well integrated, with flavors of toasted wood, cocoa spice and rich dark berry.

Decanter
