Hello, ELEVATION?! Mas des Flauzières is crashing the party from the ruins of a medieval wine spot at the base of the mighty Mont Ventoux - the 6,263-foot brute that looms over Provence and regularly humbles riders in the Tour de France. The Flauzières vineyards grip steep, terraced south-west facing slopes at high altitude (well, for the Southern Rhône). Vines struggle, compete, and earn their character the hard way here.
Same family, same land, since 1919, the Benoit family has staked its claim for over a hundred years. Today it’s run by Jérôme Benoit, head winemaker who joined the family biz in 2002. Half master farmer, half wine wizard, Jérôme only cranks out two cuvées from his Gigondas vines. Both pull their weight. Our obsession? Four d’Anuga, a 1,500-case beast that carries big, juicy fruit strapped together by unflinching structure, and jam packed with personality.

Old-vine Grenache (some vines pushing 70 years) leads the charge with younger Syrah and Mourvèdre happily in the mix. Like Jérôme himself - ex-rugby player through and through - Four d’Anuga is big-boned and scrappy, yet unexpectedly light on its feet, powered by a deep core of cherry-packed fruit that shouts old- vine Grenache. Mourvèdre and Syrah partner up to throw in black olive, anise, cracked black pepper, and sneaky flashes of florals to keep things electric.

A touch of oak smooths the mountain grit, adding texture and roundness while keeping the wine energetic and approachable. This is peak sun-soaked Southern Rhône at its best – massive depth, flavor punch, and finesse that lingers like it owns the place.

Fire it up with a fat porterhouse steak or slow-braised ribs. Or skip the pairing stress – pop it tonight with whatever chaos is on the table: family dinner, friends crashing, or you and a killer book. There’s a lot of flexibility for the coin.Â
Drink now or cellar for 6–8 years and watch it get even sassier.
Cheers to wines that don’t mess around!
