Family-run since 1979, Prager Winery & Port Works is Napa’s underground Port powerhouse. Small, family-owned, and obsessed with making fortified wines that stand toe-to-toe with the Douro, they produce richly layered, small batch fortified bottles with serious depth and dimension.
This Tawny rolls in with a deep amber glow …10+ years in barrel will do that. Silky and creamy on the palate, it still flashes a little tannic backbone, then trails off into warm, brandy-kissed bliss. Powered by peppery Petite Sirah (100%) and aged for over a decade, this sip flies from subtle to stunning real quick. Just bottled in 2024, it’s drinking beautifully right now. Keep in mind Tawny Ports don’t get better with time. SO DRINK UP (at least by 2030).
The Pour: Aromas arrive with brandied figs and apricots, vanilla, orange peel, and a touch of candied citrus. On the palate it’s silky, creamy, and wickedly smooth. Caramel, toffee, plum, and telltale nutty character balance the hint of sweet. Bright acidity cuts the richness, sliding into a long, polished finish. This one’s a thinker, not a fruit bomb.
